Bob has been a performer all his life, starting with four appearances on Art Linkletter’s Kids Say the Darndest Things on CBS-TV while in elementary school in Los Angeles. He’s been a Chorale member since 2018 and its treasurer since the start of the 2020-21 season.
A versatile artist, Bob performed with Arizona Opera in solo roles (Sweeney Todd, Of Mice and Men, Dialogues of the Carmélites), featured ensemble roles (Don Carlo and Un Ballo in Maschera), and as a chorister in too many productions to recall. He’s been the bass soloist in oratorios and other works with MusicaNova Orchestra and Scottsdale Musical Arts (Messiah, Weinachts Oratorium, Meet Arizona, No Exit, Let Us Garlands Bring, Five Apparitions of the Virgin Mary, Mozart Requiem, St. John Passion). In addition to AMC, he’s been a member of the Arizona Musicfest chorus for five years.
His leading roles in musicals include The Pirate King in Pirates of Penzance, Ko-Ko in The Mikado, Noah in Richard Rodgers’ Two By Two, Hucklebee in The Fantasticks, Fagin in Oliver!, and recently with AMC as Balthazar in Amahl and the Night Visitors. Once upon a time, he founded the Canterbury Transfer Madrigal Quartet and appeared regularly at the Arizona Renaissance Festival.
On the legitimate theater stage, Bob has created roles in several new works, as well having leading roles in classics ranging from works by Euripides (Medea) and Shakespeare (Henry VI 1-2-3, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Romeo and Juliet, Antony and Cleopatra, Twelfth Night) to Oscar Wilde (Salome), Arthur Miller (The Crucible), Alan Tongret (Child of the Kosmos), and Ken Ludwig (Moon Over Buffalo). On a less elevated stage, he appeared as Jon the Zombie in the grindhouse horror film Blood Moon Rising, including a scene with the legendary actor Ron Jeremy.
He was formerly a host and announcer for the KBAQ Production Studio, where he researched, wrote, and narrated productions of ASU In Concert and Southwest Season Ticket, and a volunteer reader for Learning Ally (formerly Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic). He’s now a management consultant specializing in nonprofit arts organizations through his company, BASYS Consulting.
