Bob Altizer

Bob joined the Chorale in 2018 and became its treasurer and business manager at the start of the 2020-21 season, and the President in mid-season.  He leads AMC’s strategic planning and budgeting, accounting, contracts, and much of its day-to-day business.  He also serves as AMC’s technology manager and webmaster.

He previously served as President and CEO of the MusicaNova Orchestra (MNO) in Phoenix from 2014 to 2020.  Under his leadership, MusicaNova grew to a major force in the Phoenix area arts scene, with up to 20 productions per season.  His innovations include the Young Artists Concert Series, the Community Concerts Series, the Composition Fellows Program that premieres works from composers worldwide, and collaborations with several Phoenix-area arts and education partners. On the business side, Bob introduced MNO to strategic planning, upgraded its budgeting and finance activities, broadened marketing and publicity, upgraded its technology, and created the leadership transition process.

Bob holds degrees in astrophysics from UCLA, where when not looking at the sky he sang under the legendary Donn Weiss, and from Northwestern University; he studied computer science in the Graduate School at Arizona State University.  His professional career includes several technical and leadership roles with Motorola, where he was an elected a Member of the Technical Staff; founding of a technology start-up; teaching in the Maricopa Community College District; consulting as a Project Management Professional; and working as a professional soccer referee.  His company, BASYS Enterprises LLC, now provides management consulting for non-profit arts organizations.  He is a versatile performer in legitimate and musical theatre, opera, and oratorio (see his performing résumé).
