Adoramus Te, Christe
Composer Notes by
Paul Sautter
Adoramus te, Christe, et benedicimus tibi:
Qui per sanctam crucem et passionem tuam redemisti mundum.
Qui passus es pro nobis
Domine, miserere nobis
We adore you, Christ, and we bless you:
Who by your holy cross and passion
hast redeemed the world.
Who hast suffered for us
Lord, have mercy on us
Paul’s musical journey has been very eclectic. He was a classically trained pianist from an early age and sang in his church choir. After graduating from Concordia Teachers College in 1973, he took the road less traveled and played keyboards and guitar in various rock and blues bands around the Midwest and later in California. He moved to Arizona in 1993 and in early 2000’s he began singing in a church choir directed by his brother, Ron Sautter. That began his interest in singing and composing choral music. He began composing short choral responses as well as solo pieces and hymn arrangements. His solo piece, Pie Jesu, was the catalyst that began a 9 year long quest to complete his Requiem in D minor. The Adoramus te Christe on today’s program is his latest composition, composed for the choir at Epiphany Lutheran Church in Chandler, to be sung at their Ash Wednesday services. In retirement, Paul plays in Desert Pipes, a Renaissance/Baroque recorder group in Phoenix and has written and arranged pieces for that group as well. He also enjoys playing cello in a string trio with friends, just for fun.
