NOTES ON THE HEGEMAN/DUFAY PIECES

The medieval French in pieces from Guilliame Du Fay is similar to contemporary standard French except for the “-ois”, “-oye”, and “-oir” endings which are all pronounced “we” [IPA] as in way”, not wa” as in -wah” or wer” as in “voir” = “vwer”.

This would include such words:

      1. Se la face ay pale : voudroye, voir, devoir, avoir, recevoir, douloir
      2. Adieu ces bons vins: Lannoys, bourgeois, galois, amoye, joye, vois, nois, pois, menoye, moy, fois, bois, voye.
      3. La belle se siet: moy, loyaus (lwe-o)

See the Interactive Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) chart.
