The Arizona Masterworks Chorale (AMC) is committed to enriching cultural life in Arizona by presenting great choral music with well-crafted sound in exceptional performances.
We begin our 47th season with new artistic leadership, a new rehearsal and performance home, and a renewed focus on performing classical and contemporary choral masterworks.
AMC is a 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofit Arizona member-managed corporation supported by ticket sales, grants, and donations. AMC operates in accord with the By-Laws and policies that are posted on our website, https://arizonamasterworks.com. We are an equal opportunity corporation: We will act to ensure diversity, equity, and inclusion in all we do, and we seek the broadest possible representation from our community.
All volunteer choristers in good standing are “members of the corporation,” eligible to vote on candidates for the Board of Directors and responsible for supporting AMC’s strategic objectives of artistic and operational growth. Artistic growth means upholding our standards of artistic excellence and improving the musicianship of each member and the ensemble. Operational growth focuses on long-term financial and organizational sustainability. The AMC By-Laws, policies, and Strategic Plan are posted on our website.
That means working on notes, words, and vocal techniques and coming to rehearsals well-prepared for the best use of our time together preparing for performances. And it means supporting AMC’s operational health in ways that make the best use of your resources and skills through donations (cash and in-kind), participating in community outreach and fundraising activities, and volunteering.
AMC’s primary channels for Chorister news are the Chorister News & Information page on our website and email, both of which are frequently updated. Please be sure your contact information is accurate and kept up to date. (We’re looking into other channels, including social media and chat groups.) A roster of this season’s members will be published on the News & Information page. Choristers may contact individual officers or music staff members via email or text, or by email to info@arizonamasterworks.com.
Volunteer Choristers pay seasonal dues of $125 to support Chorale operations, due within 30 days of joining the Chorale. Dues payments, which are donations eligible for tax deduction, may be made to the Treasurer by cash or check, or by Zelle to finance@arizonamasterworks.com. Please contact the Treasurer if you need assistance with dues or consideration for your personal situation.
Rehearsals and Performances
Ensemble musical rehearsals are on Monday evenings from 7:00 to 9:00 PM in the sanctuary at the Church of the Epiphany, 2222 South Price Road, Tempe. A calendar of rehearsal and performance dates is published on the Chorister News & Information web page. There are scheduled rehearsal breaks around the New Year and in the spring of 2026.
Performance weekends include a final rehearsal on Friday evening, and performances on Saturday afternoon or evening and on Sunday afternoon. Choristers agree to prepare and participate in rehearsals and performances in a professional manner, with commensurate standards of vocal quality and conduct.
PLEASE DO NOT COME TO REHEARSAL OR PERFORMANCE IF YOU ARE ILL. Please notify the Music Director as soon as possible if you will not be at a scheduled service. Please do not wear any scented products (cologne, body spray, deodorant, hair spray, etc.) to rehearsal or performance.
If you need individual help preparing a piece you may contact the Music Director or one of the Assistant Conductor-Teaching Artists directly.
Musical Scores, Mark-Ups, and Rehearsal Tracks
Hard copy scores will be provided by the Music Librarian. These can be marked in pencil, but not highlighted. Choristers may use hard copy or tablets as they prefer. Following each concert, Choristers return hard copies to the Library and delete digital copies from their tablets or other storage.
Reference PDF scores with the Music Director’s markings, along with audio rehearsal tracks are posted on the Chorister News and Information page of the AMC website. Choristers are responsible for preparing their scores with these markings and working on their parts prior to coming to rehearsal, prepared for ensemble singing. This includes knowing the translation and proper pronunciation of non-English texts.
Wardrobe
Choristers provide their own wardrobe items, as described in the AMC Wardrobe Guide posted on the Chorister News & Info page. Concert dress is traditional “concert black”; outreach events are casual.
Recording
In your role as a Chorister, AMC may photograph or record you (audio and/or visual) during rehearsals and performances, and use those images and sounds for publicity, marketing, or any other means that support the Chorale’s interests. Choristers may record rehearsals and performances for their own study or archival purposes but may not distribute such recordings commercially or in any way defamatory or derogatory to other choristers, music staff, or AMC as an organization.
